Scrap Yard Urban Farm is a "beyond-organic", low-till, small-production vegetable farm located in the heart of West Wichita. We grow a wide range of seasonal veggies, with an emphasis on heirloom varieties. Here at the Scrap Yard we believe that our food should be aesthetically beautiful, as well as tasty, so we choose varieties that are complex in both their style and flavor. Organic pesticides and herbicides are rarely used, with extensive alternative measures always taken first as part of our "beyond organic" commitment to you, to our plants, and to our soil. Look for us at market to peruse a selection of gorgeous and seasonal vegetables that include salad mixes with herbs & edible flowers, pungent hard-neck garlic, juicy multi-colored tomatoes, buttery winter squash, and funky edible & ornamental flower bouquets. A Backstory: Our bizarre name speaks to the history of the land (once a former mini-scrap yard), to the piece-meal charm of the place, and to the necessity of and beauty in using the scraps to grow both food and a business in thoughtful, inexpensive, and aesthetically pleasing ways.
